Silence Velcro with a Bit of Removable Fabric

Reader Jeremy Moulton was tired of his bag constantly making noise whenever he opened it?especially when it already has a clip to keep it secured shut. So, he put together this removable velcro silencer out of a little bit of fabric.

I recently got a camera bag, but the velcro wasn't ideal for shooting on the street or for events. I have seen other camera bags with "silencers" that cover the velcro in a pinch to stop you drawing attention to yourself. I decided to make my own.

For this I needed a small sewing kit, some material and a button. First I chose a suitable piece of material (I used a violin case cover). Next I measured it all up, cut the material and then sewed the button onto the bag. I then simply made two slits in the material - one for the button and one for the plastic clip on the lid. I chose to seal up the open end of the material to keep it all in one piece. Now I can either leave the material on the button but not obstructing the velcro if I need it at the ready, or I can simply just remove it all together.

Of course, you could always use duct tape in a pinch?though it certainly looks a little worse for wear.
