Former UConn forward Michael Bradley, after being denied immediate eligibility at Western Kentucky, instead has decided to enroll at Vincennes University, a two-year junior college in Indiana.
Bradley famously gave up his scholarship so the Huskies could add star Andre Drummond to the roster last summer. And after UConn was banned for the ?13 NCAA Tournament, Bradley, like several teammates, left the Huskies? program.
Bradley, a 6-10 native of Chattanooga, Tenn., was told by the NCAA that he would have to sit out the 2012-13 season despite never suiting up for the Huskies in two seasons at UConn. Having been redshirted in 2010-11 and then missing last season with an ankle injury, Bradley didn?t want to miss a third consecutive season. So he now will resume his career at a junior college.
?He?s a big, talented guy, and he has a vast amount of potential,? Vincennes coach Todd Franklin said in a statement. ?We hope he can get us over the hump (to be a serious contender for a NJCAA Div. I National Championship at Hutchinson, KS). ... When you can add a 6-10 Big East transfer who doesn?t bring a lot of baggage and was a high test score player, you have to feel fortunate.?
Bradley may be only at Vincennes for one season before transferring back to a Division I school. Assuming his UConn credits are accepted at Vincennes, he likely will graduate from the two-year school next spring. He then could move back to Division I with two years of eligibility, and perhaps three should the NCAA grant him a medical waiver because of his ankle injury that cost him the 2011-12 season.
