Apidra has real chance to win the Sportingbet Super Stayer Series ? Greyhound Racing Update

Apidra, the pole-sitting Riverina-based greyhound still has a plenty of chances to improve herself prior to the end of the innovative Sportingbet Super Stayer Series.

Brian Smith prepared speed star, Apidra leading the points table with 39 points and as the series reached half-way, she is now set to travel to Lismore along with her trainer. Smith has already travelled with his dog to Dubbo, Nowra and Bathurst for participating and winning events.

The speed star dog is now looking to clench the winner?s bonus which is worth $10,000 and if she succeeded it will be a very promising effort. The victory will be in presence of some Group winners like Slick Lee, Blue Lorian and Humdrum. On the leader board Slick Lee has 33 points while both of Blue Lorian and Humdrum stands at 24.

The trainer of the dog is quite confident to remain at the top of the points table and to win the bonus prize money, but he is not sure whether his dog will be able to beat greyhounds like Slick Lee and Blue Lorian.

?We tried to get her as a stayer and things happened. This has been her toughest preparation yet and she is feeling fine. She will improve every time she goes around the 700. Another six weeks she will be a lot stronger and I will keep shunting her around (for the Sportingbet Super Stayer Series),? Brian Smith stated.

The Sportingbet Super Stayer Series has revived Smith?s interest in the staying competitions and regards it as a good concept. The series will attribute 29 heats including a number of ?Sullo?s Sling? bonus hearts in which finalists gain double points.

?I?m assuming Slick Lee will go to Melbourne and Blue Lorian as well for the Sandown Cup. If they stay away, I may be able to get a little breather. She?s pretty tough and as long as nothing happens to her she should be alright,? the trainer further explained.

In last year?s event, Apidra was in third place behind True Kihael, the track record holder and she looked quite prepared for better result this time over the 760 metres journey. Although it looks quite tough to run over such a long distance, yet she has a reasonable opportunity to do so.

The top eight greyhounds on the points table will then compete in the final of the Sportingbet Super Stayer Series worth of $22,500 on Friday, July 8 at Wentworth Park.

It will be interesting to see how Apidra can carry on the winning momentum into the next races of the season. Only the top dogs and their trainers will be able to compete at this level, as the stakes are high and the competition is fierce.
