Phase 4 Films has acquired U.S. rights to Mandalay Vision?s dark comedy?Another Happy Day, written and directed by Sam Levinson. The indie?distributor plans a fall release.
Ellen Barkin,?Demi Moore,?Kate Bosworth,?Thomas Haden Church,?Ellen Burstyn?and Ezra Miller star in the story of a strained family trying to survive a?wedding. The film had its?world premiere?in competition at the?Sundance Film?Festival, where Levinson won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.
Celine Rattray, Todd Traina, Johnny Lin, Michael Nardelli, Salli Newman,?Pamela Fielder and Barkin produced.
?Another Happy Day had Sundance audiences both laughing and crying in equal?proportions,? said Phase 4 president and CEO Berry Meyerowitz. "The film?marks Sam Levinson's bold arrival as a filmmaker and Ellen Barkin delivers a?remarkable performance. People will connect with this insightful look into?the messy dynamics of the modern family."
David Dinerstein will shepherd the film?s theatrical release in?collaboration with Phase 4, which has recently released Hugh Hefner:?Playboy, Activist and Rebel, The Freebie and?Vidal Sassoon?The Movie.?
Phase 4 exec Larry Greenberg negotiated the deal with Michelle Hastings of?Mandalay Vision and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
Recent Mandalay Vision projects include?The Kids Are All Right?and?Soul?Surfer. The company has The?Whistleblower, Salvation Boulevard and Bernie?forthcoming.
