Richard Long says he is living his dream ? the American dream ? and it?s all about cars.
Long and his wife Kay are celebrating 40 years at the family business, L L Used Cars.
?It is important to like what you do. This was my dream (owning a car sales business) and it happened,? says Long.
Today, the couple and children Debbie, Joe and Mark, invite everyone to join their celebration at an open house event which is being held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the business which is located at 450 W. Hickory Street.
Visitors will not only enjoy hot dogs and soda, but will see first hand what Richard says is his claim to fame ? ?L L Used Cars, where the unusual is usual.?
Long will offer visitors a close look at his personal car collection, and his grill ? which is fashioned like a car motor.
The ornate front gates, which are designed with an L on each side, will welcome visitors into the business area. A Koi pond sits near the home and garage, and the hot dogs and soda will be served from a larger building located on the west side of the property.
Long established the business in 1971 after having worked at Hiram Walker for many years.
L L Used Cars was first located in a nearby area, but when the present property came available he made the move and started the improvements.
Long says the property was very shallow and he began by adding 400 tons of gravel to level the ground. The business is familiar to anyone who travels what is called the Canton-Cuba blacktop. LL is situated near the Big Creek bridge.
Cars which Long has collected for the family?s enjoyment include a 1991 Cadillac convertible (a gift to his wife on their anniversary), a 2003 Chevy Super Sport Extended Cab pickup (his pride and joy), a 1996 Taurus SHO with a high performance motor, a Saub convertible, a Mercury Capri convertible, and a Camaro convertible.
