The Power Of Art Materials | Arts and Entertainment Network

Art has always been surrounded by an air of romance, intrigue and mystery. The artists that create a love affair of the mind and the canvas can be elevated to the status of legend. The artist has the ability to weave stories, emotion and experience with art materials. They are able to transform a mere paintbrush into a mystical and energized wand of power. The artist can take anyone to any place with a brush stroke.

For years the tools of an artist have been used to shape minds, change thought and build culture. The pen has ended wars and started wars. The paintbrush has made people cry and smile. Without the artist controlling them they would be simple inanimate objects. In the hand of the artist they become magic wands capable of levitating people and crushing cities. This is why young children are often taught the basics of art. By stimulating their minds in the arts it will ensure that the arts will continue.

The brush has throughout the centuries used many different types of material. The different types of hairs used in a brush create different effects. One of the most expensive brush hairs is red sable. Red sable is the hair of a weasel.

The kolinsky sable is hair from the tail of a Siberian mink. This is more expensive because of the rarity and the incredibly fine point that it can make. It is also impressive because the snap of the brush from the canvas and back to its original pointed shape.

Computers have changed some of the way that art is created. Some artists use a combination of both traditional art and computer art. Some artists are those that are strictly computer artists. There will always be the strict traditionalists as well.

Many comic book artists will draw in pencil then have the inking done by another artist using a computer. That inker can also do the color work or send it to another artist. There are those that insist on using real ink and real color as opposed to using a computer. This is because once it goes to the computer, there is not an original hand made copy that can be sold. That is why it is now having to be specified what type of inker or colorist that the artist wants to work on his team.

Courses in photography are also changing because of modern technological advances. Many instructors no longer teach the dark room as they did in the past. The cost of supplies have started to rise as they are no longer in mass production. Most old style cameras are no longer in production.

The art that can be created with simple art materials can change perceptions and make a lasting impression on humanity. It is also the artist that controls the brush that lives on in the minds of the people. As technology advances us and the methods of artistic expression; there will always be a need and desire to dab paint on a canvas or sharpen a pencil.
